It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the right-hander was underway.

"A chance to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
